GION KAWASEMI

This was our favorite place we stayed in Japan during our two week trip. The property is so unique, clean, and comfortable. The gardens were lovely, and the staff were very attentive and helpful. I would 100% stay here the next time we visit Japan.

The location could not be better. Surrounded by amazing culinary options, beautiful riverside/canalside scenery, walkable to busier areas, and the train easily accessible. Also the space and design of the property was perfect. If we have the pleasure of returning to Kyoto, we will only want to stay here.

My only wish for the property would be a better way to block out the early morning (4:30 AM in summer) sunlight in the main bedroom. I’m an early riser, but 4:30 is even early for me.

Gorgeous, traditional house with modern amenities and lots of room for our family of four. Nicely stocked with drinks and treats for us to enjoy. Washing machine helpful for mid trip clothes cleaning. The zen gardens and lighting were calming and just beautiful. Spa like large bathroom with wooden tub to enjoy. Great, quiet location with easy walk ability to sites, shops and restaurants. Easy check in at separate location, but they were very helpful and delivered our luggage directly. We loved sitting all together playing games at the low traditional table every night. This was our absolute favorite place we stayed on our entire 2 week trip. Highly recommend, it’s quite special.

airconditioning was not great in the bedroom by the street also the noise was pretty bad on the Saturday night in the front bedroom. It is a party sort of area so to be expected but maybe double glazing?

A perfectly positioned traditional Japanese home with many interesting and thoughtful touches. Great wooden tub bath and well equipped bathroom..

Check in was efficient once we found the office, which was quite a way from the station.

Gion Kawasemi is an excellent place to stay in Kyoto. The accommodation has plenty of space and is impeccably clean and well furnished. Access was straightforward (requiring registration at a location near to Kyoto station) and the hosts contacted us with plenty of notice to confirm arrangements. The accommodation itself benefits from the charm of a traditional house, and has plenty of modern facilities, including online information and host contact options. It is incredibly well designed and furnished - the photos are accurate. Being located in Gion with many sights within walking distance, and local food stores only minutes away adds to the convenience. I wonderful place to stay - highly recommended.

Very clean, the bath was the best part.

The staff was very nice. However it was very inconvenient that we have to pick up keys at an office that’s 15 mins away from the actual house. They did provide transportation to house from office after check in so that was nice. Would be better if paperwork was done virtually and have door access with code, so we wouldn’t need to go to an office.
