Ruwan Jungle Homestay

We liked Ruwan’s hospitality. He is a nice host. All was prepared for our stay. We were welcomed with coco nuts. He was attentive and kind.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it started with Ruwan contacting us to ask if he could pick us up from somewhere to make it easier for us. This saved a lot of time and hassle and made a great first impression. He asked about our interests and what we had planned and then arranged everything for us, with good local knowledge and contacts. He always put us first and gave us lots of extras, like free water, stopping to buy us fruit and trips in his tuk tuk to wherever we needed to go. The room was beautiful and spacious with the biggest bed. We were provided with so much food for breakfast, served on the balcony, and always with a smile. We laughed a lot and always enjoyed his company. His wife and daughters were also charming. A home cooked dinner of chicken kotthu and dhal one night was the best we had in our 3 week trip. Nothing is too hard, nor too far away for him to tackle- He even took us to Sinharaja Rainforest. We won't forget our time with him.

Ruwan is an utterly fantastic host, with an awesome homestay. Ruwan was incredibly knowledgeable, generous and you truly felt welcomed into his beautiful family. Our son didn't want to leave and nor did we. The best hospitality we've ever had.

Everything was amazing, just make sure you take good mosquito repellant for the area.

Have had an amazing time at Ruwan’s homestay. He is sooo kind and goes above and beyond to help and make your stay enjoyable. On my arrival, he bought me a fresh coconut as a welcome drink. He also cooked me a delicious vegetarian meal on the night I arrived and stayed to chat with me to discuss how I could spend my time in Mirissa. The place is really in the jungly and I have seen so many animals in my stay here - monkeys, woodpeckers, turtles, squirrels! He works so hard and is such a genuinely nice man, I’m very grateful to have come across Ruwan’s homestay :)

This was our favorite accommodations in all of Sri Lanka. We ended up staying 5 nights. The owner, Ruwan, is such a friendly guy and made all the effort to make us feel at home. During our first night the AC broke in our room and the next morning Ruwan allowed us to move to a different room without any problem. He also prepared a delicious breakfast for us every morning. The room itself was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable and the area very jungle-like. We even saw monkeys from our window several times (also woken up by them running on the roof).

One thing that I should point out is that currently (June 2024) there is a construction of another apartment, but it wasn't too noisy or dirty. Just saying this so that you won't be surprised when you arrive to this perfect homestay!

the property and facilities were phenomenal, very comfortable rooms with all amenities.

the owner ruwan at the start was very friendly to us and cooked us a lovely breakfast (that we paid extra for), he even offered us a free ride in his tuktuk to the beach. After the first breakfast some of the items that were included in the breakfast weren’t available which was disappointing but we didn’t mind, then he spoke to my partner in a strange way that I did not appreciate about the prices of our fare down to mirissa and would not stop asking her about the prices saying how he could get them cheaper. then on the third day he cooked us 1 very over cooked egg for each of us with fruit and toast but left it out when we were not ready so by the time we got out there, there was flys all over our food which was pretty disappointing, a simple cover for our food would have been appreciated. when it came to payment he asked for extra money after we already paid his daughter because he required to be elsewhere even though he told us that the drive to the beach was for free and if we wanted to pay him extra money we could have but we decided not to because of the genuine lack of effort in our breakfast.

Beautiful property and a wonderful host ! My stay at Ruwan's place in Mirissa was fantastic! Ruwan himself is what truly makes this place special. He's an incredibly kind and genuine person who went above and beyond to ensure I had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Unlike others who might try to overcharge tourists, Ruwan offered the best help and the most reasonable prices. He even helped me a lot with things after my stay in Mirissa. If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay in Mirissa, with a host who genuinely cares about your experience, then look no further than Ruwan's place. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area

Ruwan was friendly and the room was very clean and comfortable. He was really good with recommendations and was always there when we needed him. The fully stocked fridge with water was a life saver and such a nice touch so you didn’t have to keep asking.

Perfect location only 700m from the beach. You can sleep very quiet, it's a very clean room. Good breakfast. Ruwan is very friendly and knows the exact spot to see seaturtles and when! Don't hesitate just book this homestay! Ruwan is very customer friendly!
