"A characterful property"

7.0

Beautiful location. We loved being able to go straight into the cemetery gardens. The dog loved it too. We also appreciated the proximity to Sharrowvale and Eccleshall roads and the Botanical Gardens. We loved the history of the place and the tiny garden was delightful.

The house seemed a bit dark and musty when we first arrived but once we'd opened some windows and turned on the lights it felt much more welcoming. Our main issue was the shower - we couldn't turn it on! I had to ring for some assistance, but even after I knew how to turn it on, it was too stiff for me to turn. My husband (aged 82) did just manage it. Obviously space is at a premium but a small basic coffee -maker would have been very welcome.

"Very characterful property with thoughtful period decor and antique furnishings, chess, books"

9.0

We had a very enjoyable couple of nights whilst visiting our student son nearby. It's different from the usual bland chain hotel experience. The location near the Eccleshall Road with all its independent shops and restaurants is perfect, and the cemetery itself is historically and architecturally interesting. Would happily stay again and recommend to others who like period properties and unique places to stay.

The location is slightly edgy because people can access the cemetery at all hours of the day and night, and may even congregate right by the front door. The windows needed cleaning, and the toilet seat was a bit loose. We needed to pay for parking on the arrival and departure days (free permit supplied for the full day in between).

Retro furnishing in line with the history of the building. Very clean. Compact kitchen with all that a solo traveller or couple would need for self catering. Beautiful location next to cemetery but also close to local amenities. Great value.

"Cosy, quirky property in a quiet suburb"

8.0

Quirky building tucked away in a convenient spot off Ecclesall Road. Easy access to local amenities and the city centre. Fascinating exploring Sharrow Cemetery

Quite a lot of noise overnight from the local community

"Cosy Stay Steeped in History"

10.0

Gorgeous property, steeped in history. Really enjoyed taking the time to read about the history of the cemetery with the fantastic books provided. Really calm place to stay despite the proximity to the bustling streets close by. We stayed for 3 nights and after arriving we spent time within walking distance of the property, lots of beautiful parks/shops/cafes to explore. Facilities were great, easy check in and check out.

Nothing, although my partner does have quite severe allergies, we have a small hypoallergenic dog ourselves but his allergies were a bit triggered from the soft furnings, but as I say to be expected with Dog Friendly properties,

"Unique, quirky, historic place to stay -- wonderful!"

9.0

Unique quirky place to stay - the gatehouse to the Sheffield General Cemetery - very much in the style of a Landmark Trust property. Tardis-like space (larger on the inside than it appears from the outside) and lovely setting over the Porter Brook at the entrance to the cemetery, which is now a public park. However, despite feeling like a countryside location, less than 5 mins walk from all the shops, restaurants, cafes and convenient bus links of the Ecclesall Road.

Nothing to dislike -- we've stayed here before and will do again. There is no TV (excellent!) but there is a good WiFi connection.

"An unusual but very peaceful place to stay, in a beautiful former gatehouse, yet conveniently located for Ecceshall Road"

9.0

Incredibly peaceful with beautiful birdsong yet conveniently located close to Ecceshall Road. Beautifully curated with antique pieces of furniture, games and interesting selection of books.

The footpath past the gatehouse through the cemetery is well used at all times of day so it can be noisy at times. Limited parking on Stalker lees Road and surrounding area at weekends.

"Lots of character and a lovely, unusual place to stay"

9.0

The location and original purpose of the building made for a unique and fascinating place to stay - and we were lucky enough to be there when there was a guided historical walk available, the meeting point for which was literally on our doorstep. The property was restored by the Cemetery Volunteers who now rent it out to generate an income to support their work. Despite being a unique property it was easy to find, very convenient for Ecclesall Road and Sharrow Vale and about a 25 minute walk from the city centre. We were very happy with it :0)

As advertised, there is no TV or microwave and kitchen was small but it was well-equipped and there was an interesting selection of games and books on the shelves.
