Beautiful Grade II Listed Gatehouse in Great Location

Quite possibly the best place we have ever stayed. Really different but beautifully laid out in an ' unconventional ' location with beautiful surroundings. The facilities are first class. A midnight walk through the cemetery was topped off by a fox following us back to the lodge, hoping for a snack no doubt.

Parking restrictions are a little confusing ( no fault of the lodge) but once you've navigated those you're sorted.

Was a quiet location. Properly was quirky and pretty much as described. Well equipped kitchen, appreciated the tea and coffee making supplies.

Shower needs an upgrade, shower tray feels a little unsafe as it sags in the middle. Bedroom was hot despite turning down heating.

Nicely decorated historic property in an absolutely unique location at the entrance of a historic graveyard, while still close to nice restaurants and shops.

Quintessentially English interior and attention to detail in choice of furniture, cutlery, crockery - everything! Great host who sent a very nice lady to sort out a minor problem promptly.

Windows were hard to open so we found it difficult to ventilate the room. Overall very clean, a bit of a shame that tiles in the shower room needed more attention.

I'm not sure what we expected from the gatehouse of a cemetery (and it really was part of the grand archway leading to a historic cemetery, now a public park under management by a trust) but it was an absolute gem. Very much had the feel of a Landmark Trust property, both in terms of the quirky nature of the accommodation and the period interior decor, and roomier than expected from the outside. Lovely setting - the cemetery/park is lovely and the building itself spans a small river (the Porter Brook) where we spotted a kingfisher alongside the moorhens and ducks - and, although only a couple of minutes walk from the shops, bars and restaurants of the Eccleshall Road, we weren't disturbed at night at all. We felt we'd escaped to a country cottage despite being just off a bustling part of the city.

Nothing. Some people might find the lack of a TV off-putting, but for us it was a plus. Besides, there is WiFi and so connection with online media is there if you want it.

Beautiful cottage, to me is even roomier than the photos suggest. Great location and peaceful with the river and cemetery park either side. Felt very safe as a solo female traveller.

Staying in winter and arriving in the evening, the first night it was chilly but once the heating had got going, was lovely and cosy. If arriving late in winter, get all the handily available blankets on the bed!

We had a fantastic stay at the gatehouse, we loved the character and it’s history .Quirky little touches of the latched doors, antique furniture, slash windows, and low atmospheric light. Great central location but at the same time surrounded by green due to the cemetery location.

Super location. Wonderful graveyard park, full of history and well used by locals. Cute little cottage, beautifully renovated and very in keeping with age if building.
