We broke our journey from Kent to North Yorkshire with an overnight stay at the Thorold, which was rescued from developers by concerned locals and transformed into a community enterprise. Their concern for their environment is reflected in the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and their pride in their village. The evening meal in the restaurant was superb, and the comfortable king-sized bed ensured we were well rested for continuing our journey, after a hearty breakfast. We were Thoroldy impressed!

A fan would have been helpful in the bedroom. Some elements of the breakfast were overcooked for my liking. Good food needs good salt, not sodium chloride - e.g. a pot of *Maldon Sea Salt wouldn't go amiss on the table. *The guests have no connection to The Maldon Sea Salt Company.

The Thorold exceeded our expectations. Our room was spotless, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfy. Our breakfast was excellent, and plenty of it. We also had a meal in the restaurant and the quality of the food was exceptional, I would highly recommend the steak and stilton pie if it is the pie of the day. When we arrived we were greeted by Rachel who was very helpful and couldn't do enough to help us. The bar was well stocked with several different beers, Luke the barman was very good too. All in all I am very pleased we picked the Thorold for an overnight stop, we would be more than happy to recommend stopping here, you won't be disappointed.

We loved everything about our stay.

Room was very clean, modern and comfortable. Toiletries were appreciated, also drinks tray. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was freshly cooked, hot and plentiful.

The moment we walked through the door during a busy dinner service Rachel made us feel welcomed. She was so kind and ensured we had what two tired travelers needed. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet.

We had such a lovely day the rooms were pristine, Rachael and all the staff are lovely, including our staff they made us just feel right at home. We will definitely be staying again next year as we travelled for a festival and couldn’t have asked for better comfort and food. 10/10
