Strathmore Hotel

Basic room bed very uncomfortable and wobbly sinking mattress. Broken window large crack through it. Food in restaurant is terrible go elsewhere. I had burger it was like a £2 funfair burger absolutely awful. Breakfast below average just a mess. OJ or apple juice is not juice its squash horrible. Serving plates big clumsy nuisance that others diners treat bad and leave a mess. Would not stay or eat here again.

We went for the advertised coffee on one of our walks. The place was empty, only us there. The ‘Lavazza’ (our favourite) coffee was awful, (more like brown water). There’s an advert in Local Choice magazine that they are by open for cake and coffee throughout the day. Not a cake in sight, only one person around to serve, deal with tradesmen and sit on the front desk. We’ve been meaning to try the place for a while but after today we’ll go elsewhere. Very poor in every respect.

On arriving, the front of the building looks very grubby, with flower beds full weeds. It's not a good first impression. On check-in a queue of people, a receptionist has difficulty finding the people before us reservation, new system. Etc, etc. Eventually, we got checked in. Room on 3rd floor, it was clean. The mattresses need replacing, a few cigarette burns on furniture, considering a non-smoking room should do something about them. Breakfast is good tasty on the first morning, the second morning, 9 am, no bacon. sausages left, chef came out said he hadn't any more. 1 staff member to serve a full hotel of people!! For the money paid was average.

Inattentive, distracted and disinterested staff. They prioritise internal discussion with other staff over obviously waiting residents… not once… 3 times. Terrible sound-proofing leading to noisy neighbours talking animatedly till 3am keeping us awake, as well as, every footfall and whisper in the corridor echoes loudly into the rooms! The hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Breakfast - tea came after 3 requests. Hash browns finished an hour before breakfast did, in a 2-hour window. Croissants were frozen and then defrosted… sadly not very well because the dough inside had hardened. Eggs, beans and bacon were good.

Excellent breakfast

Stayed here one night with my son. The hotel is in a good location, just a 25 minute walk to the town centre. Our room was a good size with a bay window in the room and in the en-suite so we had good views over the coast. There’s plenty of parking on the road outside. The room was clean. We’d have enjoyed our stay a bit more had we not been in a room next to a couple who shouted, argued and didn’t stop swearing from our check in to check out. We were very unfortunate. Also, both mattresses were so uncomfortable and full of springs poking out that we had to lie on the duvets for a bit more comfort. I had to sleep under a towel to keep warm! That room needs new mattresses or mattress toppers. Overall, we did enjoy our stay though. It was cheap!
