Check in was easy , friendly staff , clean room , hotel is an old estate and is showing its age in parts , i enjoyed my stay

Amazing fabulous historic house, formerly the private residence of Andrew Carnegie after he found Skibo Castle too big and too busy and elected to build this house for more peace and quiet. This is an amazing hotel, still partly in the renovation phase but the bedrooms which are complete are great. There was a very well equipped kitchen for self catering as it is not yet fully functioning as a hotel. Its a very peaceful place and it felt like a privilege to stay here. I also had access to a number of reception rooms, which meant that I could relax in the evenings on a sofa looking out of the bay window over to the mountains with a book in hand, enjoying the long summer evenings.

The beds however were comfortable & we were glad to be out of the rain. The property itself is quite exceptional but not recommended to visit in winter as the heating looks minimal, we were fortunate to be there in summer.

The water was not safe - they had provided bottled water but we should have been informed ahead of time as this evidently is an ongoing problem at the property. Consequently we could use the toilet & that's about it. We were promised a continental breakfast basket upon booking but were informed in our arrival/check-in directions that the property does not serve food & that there was a communal kitchen area for preparing food (although this was included in the price). We did eventually find the kitchen but it was unwelcoming, fridge was on but empty - come on guys, not even any milk & no means to brew up in the bedroom either. The biggest niggle however in all this was the total absence of hooks or hangers - we had wet jackets to hang up, but no, not possible.

Room was awful, as was cleanliness, appearance, and facilities- or lack of. Absolutely shocking .

Pleasantly surprised! Real quirky house that clearly needs some love and money! Staff were lovely and room was spacious, sparse but comfy!

Very basic and run down but added to the character lol Shower and bathroom was hmmmmm

Views were breathtaking, nice to have a kitchen. Grand, old-worldly, historic rooms.

Why are they letting this building fall to ruin? Why are the peacocks given access to the great hall? Why do they not do any maintenance? Ehat are the owners thinking? At least fix the water issue, nobody in a hotel in Scotland should be expected to have to boil their water! Such a shame, this could be a truly amazing place. It's not the staff's fault.

Fantastic location with amazing views from our room. Stunning four poster bed that was very comfortable. Clean room. Shared kitchen for preparing food.

The outside of the hotel is extremely dilapidated. The back looks like it has been abandoned mid-renovation. There were several abandoned cars near the stables. The garden needed maintenance.

A classic manor that feel like a moovie! Verry old but maintain. Complete kitchen available and verry clean!
