Watermill Cottages - 18th Century converted Mill 10 mins from beach

We loved the peaceful setting of Barleycorn Cottage as its nestled beside a river, it was a joy to wake up to the sound of water and birds each morning. The cottage is full of charm, with a cosy fireplace, spacious bedrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. The garden is a lovely space to relax, with seating, a swing by the river, and even mini football goals. The location is perfect for exploring the area, including a scenic walk to Blackpool Sands. The on-site EV charger was also really handy.

There is no dishwasher. The shower pressure was a bit low and the hot water ran out after two showers in the evenings, so we had to stagger them. Neither were big issues for us, just something to keep in mind.

The property was very beautiful the location was a little more rural than I anticipated breath taking views unfortunately I had accident the moment I stepped out the car so couldn’t stay longer than one night as I needed AE and we had arrived late and left the very next morning. We were welcomed and checked upon and offered help after my accident. The host accommodate a solution so I didn’t lose out on my whole booking. Would recommend this stay just be mindful of the roads in and out but this is to be expected with the location of the properties and pretty standard for most roads in Devon.

The road in was quite tricky but with careful driving was accessible.

We loved staying in this cottage. It’s in an idyllic quiet rural spot beside a river. It was equipped with everything you could wish for, including a small bath and log burner. It was warm and cosy in the evenings when we came in and incredibly peaceful with no passing traffic. Far from the madding crowd in fact.

We found the lane to access the cottage a bit traumatic, even though we live down a narrow lane in the Cotswolds. Going down the hill was manageable, but our car struggled a bit going up on the sharp and very narrow double bend. We only have a Skoda Fabia: I guess it wouldn’t be a problem if you have a 4x4 !
