"Awful Do Not Stay Here!!!"

1.0

I stayed here for one night with my dog and, to be fair, the visit got off to a good start thanks to Blessed at reception who gave us a genuinely warm and friendly welcome. Because we had a dog, we were allocated a larger room, which was appreciated There was plenty of tea, coffee and sugar and more in reception if needed. The location is great as it's just off M5 and easy to get to.

There is a £20 charge for bringing a dog, which feels wildly overpriced for what is, at its core, a budget hotel. I wasn't expecting luxury, a chocolate on the pillow, or a butler named Jeeves, but once the dog fee was added, the total cost was comparable to hotels such as Holiday Inn Express and Travelodge. Sadly, the room quality wasn't even playing in the same league. The room itself looked as though the decorating had been completed by someone armed with a paintbrush, a blindfold, and a strong sense of optimism. The walls were badly painted, and the entire room had a rancid smell that suggested something had gone terribly wrong several guests ago. Cleanliness was another issue. There was dust along the edges of the room and gathering in the corners. The toilet seat was broken, and there was a mysterious white powder covering the toilet brush and running along sections of the skirting boards. I never did solve that particular mystery, and frankly, I wasn't keen to. The bathroom looked as though it had lost a fight with a maintenance team. Fixtures had been removed from the walls, leaving exposed plasterboard and holes behind. Around the bath was black mould that appeared to have secured a long-term tenancy agreement. As for the shower, I've experienced more powerful water pressure from a slightly enthusiastic garden misting bottle. It was weak, disappointing, and seemed to regard the concept of "showering" as merely a suggestion. I booked a budget hotel and expected basic but clean accommodation. What I got felt more like an archaeological dig into previous renovation attempts. The friendly welcome from Blessed was genuinely the highlight of the stay, but unfortunately it couldn't compensate for the condition of the room. I will not be returning, and neither will my dog, who looked at the bathroom and seemed personally offended.
