Whalers Cove in Poipu

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with a week's vacation to our favorite spot in Kauai--Whalers Cove. This time we were given Suite #131, which was a marvelous two-floor, two-bedroom, lovely living and dining area, with a magnificent lanai overlooking the ocean! Twenty-four hours a day we were aware of the sweet rumble of the ocean; the rhythmic ever-changing tides, the roar; it was like listening to the earth's heart. From the grand lanai, we were able to catch every single sunset, ate every breakfast, many a dinner, and were lulled by the beauty and sound each cocktail hour. With the very well-equipped kitchen, we were, obviously, able to prepare many of our meals of which we preferred. We were in 'rest' mode, and preferred the sanctuary of space to the wild, noisy cacophony of the over-touristed restaurants. Did I mention the beautiful grounds, swimming pool with the hot tub, and viewing of the turtles in the slough? Did I mention we were in a marvelous location near Poipu, which gave us access to the world when we chose? Oh, that's too bad!

I have been staying at this place since the mid 90's and in spite of the growth in this area, it still has its charm and privacy. Great views, great pool and barbecue. Service is great and most of the rooms have been upgraded. Already have my reservations for next year . The growth brought about some great restaurants in walking distance.

Another great stay at Whalers! Service, amenities and oh the VIEWS were fabulous! Stayed in condo 121, upstairs on the lawn side. 2 BDR with turtle sightings on the lanai, great sunsets and QUIET! The condo is getting a refresh-we loved the new bathroom decor. The lanai is spacious and great for reading and sunsets. Marianne and her staff are amazing and go above and beyond. The only problem with our stay..is that it was too short! A hui hou!

Whaler's Cove always provides an unforgettable experienc! We came over from Oahu for only for 2 nights to attend a family event, but there is never a question as to where we'd elect to stay. The friendly staff and top notch accommodations never disappoint. Mahalo Marianne and the Whaler's Cove team!

We loved Whalers Cove, from the moment we arrived at Whalers Cove we felt right at home. Our accommodations where amazing, one of the best I have stayed at. The staff through out the property where friendly, helpful and professional. The Welcoming basket and birthday wishes card gave it a special touch. The apartment and surrounding grounds where very clean, and well kept, the sea blue pool and hot tub so relaxing and a great way to end the day. The apartment met all our needs and then some, being nicely laid out, the kitchen well supplied with all we needed for preparing meals. The bathroom supplies, access to beach/pool towels and even the snorkeling gear was an added plus. The view from the living room area and main bedroom was so WOW! WOW! breathtaking. Spending my morning on the balcony with a cup of tea was a lovely way to start my day on Kaui. The convenient location of Whalers Cove made getting to areas of interest and trips easy. Highly recommend. I look forward to returning.

Such a beautiful property! Clean and quiet. I didn’t do a lot of research prior to booking and I got lucky with Whalers Cove. We were in unit #132 and it was perfect. We stayed 6 days. The Unit was Updated and Tastefully furnished . It had everything we needed from laundry, kitchen, bathrooms and beach chairs. We came from a high rise hotel on Oahu which was very nice but walking into the condo with the ocean view outside the window took our breath away. Parking and access was easy. Pool was very nice. There was an elevator to use to get to the unit on the 3rd level. One thing to know is some units like ours were 2 level and some are 1 level. I really liked our layout with living downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. A half bath was downstairs. The units are individually owned so ask for pictures to make sure you like the unit. Ours was perfect in every way. The communication from the property management was top notch. Easy to see why they have such great reviews. There was no beach outside the property (on the ocean but rocky shore) but baby beach is a short walk away through a neighborhood. You do need a car on this island. We loved the Poipu location with grocery and shopping nearby. The only thing to consider is the property does not have AC. This is true of most restaurants and property on the island. True for the airport as well except for some restaurants and gate areas. I suffered from the heat. My younger traveling companions were not affected like I was. I’m a senior citizen so maybe that was the issue. The trade winds were not cool enough for me. It might have been 75 outside but it felt 85 - 90 inside to me. Windows, floor fans and ceiling fans in the unit did not help me enough. The floor fans were loud and drowned out the sound of the ocean so that wasn’t ideal. I wanted a lot of good pictures that I couldn’t take because I was a frizzy haired sweaty mess. All in all a beautiful place and I’d highly recommend.

The location was great, views awesome.

It’s was waterfront but not beach front. You did need to drive to beach. Also there is no air conditioning in the unit. There are ceiling fans and some stand fans.

Great location, gorgeous view, lovely staff who want to help as they can

The unit is dated and for the price we expected nicer furnishings and greater comfort. The beds and pillows in the 2nd bedroom were not acceptable and after 3 sleepless night I moved to the clinch and then shared the king bed w/ my friend. The brought new pillows for me but didn’t replace all of them and didn’t address the mattresses which are as hard as a board. The blinds in the 2nd bedroom were broken and couldn’t be pulled down but they’d had a work order in and addressed it by the 3rd day. I guess we expected that for the price we were paying we’d have air conditioning and because I have motion sickness, ceiling fans don’t work for me, so the fans were essential and the 2nd fan was terrible. I should have insisted it be replaced. The unit needs a new dishwasher, it’s rusted and as coffee lovers a crummy Amazon Basics coffee maker wasn’t enjoyable. Again, for the price we were paying we expected better amenities. I am allergic to dust mites, mold, etc. and the carpets need cleaning and pillows and couches need cleaning.

Whaler's Cove is a perfect getaway for anyone that wants to unplug, listen to the ocean 24/7, and enjoy the comforts of home away from home. We are small business owners, and we enjoy the quiet of the condo, the pool, the lanai, etc. We don't travel far for anything--just beach time, dinner out nearby, and enjoying the simplicity of our time in Kauai. This was our fourth trip to Kauai and staying at Whaler's Cove. We are already looking forward to returning.
