The chic haven

It was an easy walk into town and to the train station. There was parking for one car outside. Wifi info was provided. Once we worked out how to turn on the fire and the TVs, it was comfortable as a base for our visit to York.

There were no instructions on anything in the property. It took us a while to work out that the radiators didnt work, and the only way to keep warm (it was a col weekend) was to turn on the wall fire (which was effective once we sorted out how to work it) and electric heaters in the bedrooms, keeping all doors shut. There was no heater in the bathroom. And it took us a while to work ot the TV controls. Instructions would be useful.

The location of the property was really good, close to the racecourse and a nice walk into town had one private parking space and the beds were comfy.

The toilet seat was broken, the blinds in the second bedroom were broken and knotted so one wouldn’t close and none of the tv’s were tuned so you couldn’t watch anything unless you had a personal Netflix or Amazon account. Think we managed to get bbc news downstairs that was it.

The location was good for getting to the railway station at York.

The photos did not reflect the property. The front of the house and rear garden were full of weeds and overgrown. In the photos this is all clear and looks like a lovely area to sit out in. When we entered the front room it smelt of weed/dope and that lingered all weekend. The property needs some TLC, the cutlery needs replacing, the toilet seat was broken and this had been mentioned in a post 5 days before our arrival. The area by the shower needs a deep clean as this is really grubby. The blind in the second bedroom was completely broken and just left at the top of the window so we had to put a towel up against the window to be able to sleep in the room. I have stayed in many Airbnb's all of which have been amazing experiences, but this was disappointing.

Location and ease of access to the centre of York Layout of the house worked well for us. Parking available right in front of the property

The location is great and with a parking space made this a great choice for us.

1. leaking lounge ceiling. 2. not nearly enough utensils, cooking a meal was extremely challenging. eg. no scissors or sharp knife, one saucepan. 3. no tea towel or cloths for wiping the surfaces down. The kitchen bin lid wouldn't open. 4. no blind on the kitchen window, broken blinds in other rooms. 5. exposed gripper rods upstairs with nails. 6. toilet seat not fully attached to base. 7. half a roll of toilet paper provided. 8. double bed is very squeaky each time you move. 9. children did not find the single beds comfortable, they could feel the springs. 10. the lockbox needs to use a more secure number. 11. dubious choice of photo on the top of the landing. tbf this is on the listing so I was prepared, but it is inappropriate if you allow children. 12. being messaged part way through our stay to ask if we have checked in and taken the key as the cleaner can't get in. then no follow up message after I had replied. put me on edge that people would turn up. I assume owner had got check in date confused.

Location is very good. Useful to have parking. House is a good layout and clean.

Communication not great - we arranged to arrive early to drop our things as we were attending a wedding and had been told this was ok but on arrival the place was in a mess from previous occupants so we could not leave belongings. I left a voice mail and had text earlier, but I got no response. No mattress protectors on the beds purely a sheet directly on the mattress. Blinds are not working well in the front bedroom. There are no side lamps in the back bedroom. Toilet seat broken. If we had stayed longer and needed to cook ! No tea towels, No sharp knives, scissors. Kitchen crockery limited.
