The Shipwright Inn

The room was a bit dated but very comfortable and overall a good standard of cleanliness. We enjoyed our 2 night stay. The pub restaurant downstairs is a little overpriced for its decor and very quiet out of season but the food was lovely. Having read some reviews that a complementary self serve breakfast of toast and cereals would be available in the communal kitchen, along with milk and juice in the fridge, we were a little disappointed to find that this is usually only available in high season. However when we enquired, the landlord provided the explanation and yet unexpectedly provided the items for the next morning, which was much appreciated! Also the communication between us and the landlord was excellent as we ended up arriving later than expected and he even told the pub-restaurant to wait for us as we’d booked a table so didn’t go hungry! Very happy with that level of service. Shame it’s not more widely used by locals as a bit of a gem albeit dated “Pub” is basically only a restaurant so closes when it’s got no customers and much earlier than a regular pub so very little noise.

No mention of the steps around the back to access the accommodation (4 generous ones on a sloping side street so over the pub ground floor roof but fairly accessible even with mobility issues) Clarity over breakfast situation- shouldn’t be seasonal as very handy to help yourself to toast or cereal as I’m not much of a British Cooked Breakfast person so purposely chose this one on this mention, albeit only in customer reviews and not actually in the main thread so not their fault. Bathroom shower tiles could’ve benefited from a deep clean as had some mold but no more than a touch and my house possibly has similar lol

Smooth self-check in. The room was clean and the towels were super soft. It was also great to have snacks and a kitchen available as there is no organised breakfast served at the Inn. Lovely pub downstairs (not everyday open though). Overall, enjoyed my stay at The Shipwright Inn

A quiet location with ample parking on a corner of the waterfront next to the historic Royal Navy Dockyard. Only 3 quiet comfortable newly refurbished rooms above a restaurant. The shared kitchenette (microwave & refrigerator) was a nice bonus. Genial and attentive hosts.

Lovely quality furnishings, mattress, duvet, towels etc. great facilities, lots of extras provided (tea, coffee, milk, breakfast items, juice, water). Kitchen area available to use with microwave.
